Pitching for business - get it right!
One of my pet hates has always been when people mis-spell my name. Now I don’t mean people who haven’t seen it written down but people who I have corresponded to via email or letter. To me there is nothing more annoying than sending someone an email (with my full name at the bottom of the email) and getting a reply that starts “Dear Keiran” or some other mis-spelling. I mean how hard can it be to look at how my name is spelt at the bottom of the email??
However another annoyance has started to crop up more and more and that is people getting the name/URL of my site wrong. Now I know that my site contains the word “offer” which is quite common amongst shopping/reward/offer sites but I still can’t excuse it.
Just today I got an email from a company pitching for business with the subject line:
“Introducing UKoffers.com to *********” name starred out to protect the incompetent
And that’s not all, I get regular emails to ukoffers.co.uk, ukoffer.co.uk and so on. I even got an email from a merchant who I have been affiliated with for 2 years referring to my site as Myoffers.com.
Perhaps the worst example is when Miva recently created some mock-ups of how they were going to implement Pay-Per-Call on my site. They had actually created mock-ups of a completely different site - Freeukoffers.com! This is despite me signing a contract that clearly stated my URL. I mean what a waste of time. So Clarke, if you want to see a mockup of your site with Miva results drop me a line, lol!
Maybe I’m just an old-fashioned salesman but I was always taught to learn as much as you can about the business you are pitching too before you approach them. It seems that these days you don’t even need to know the name of the business, never mind what they do!
So for the record, my name is Kieron Donoghue and my site is www.ukoffer.com
What I’m listening to right now: Mary J. Blige - “The Breakthrough”. Yes my favourite female singer of all time is back with a cracking R&B album. Buy it!

Welcome to my blog. My name is Kieron Donoghue and I run UK Offer Media Ltd. I thought it would be fun to post a daily (well hopefully daily) blog, writing about my experiences in Internet Marketing and more specifically Affiliate Marketing. I'll include some personal stuff too, probably about my other passions, music and cars. Please feel free to post your comments and thoughts too.

Kevin I know what you mean, I often get “Dear Duncan”, “Dear Clark” and sometimes “Dear Clerk” who the hell is called Clerk, apart from the folk in banks.. If I worked in a Bank it would be a nightmare, I would be called Clerk Clarke Duncan, that would be to confusing and was the reason I turned down being a banker and became an Affiliate instead.
I also get people saying I was on your site ukoffer.com and I think, yeah wish it was my site, then I be making a lot more than I do with freeukoffers.com
By the way as for Miva making the presentation with my site, for you. I will not be watching any presentation until I get my £2 and 10p in a box, I mean I only made these people over a million in profit so I think they could have at least sent me the £2 and 10p box, I know I can buy my own box and put £2 and 10p in it but just not the same.. If I could post photos in my reply I show you what I mean, I never pulled it off in the classy way they did, mines just came off looking like a cheap copy coloured in with crayons as that’s all I can afford now that I am not making Miva millions of pounds anymore LOL
