Well much has been said in forums/blogs about the new CJ Javascript Link Initiative. I purposely haven't commented on this as yet as I wanted to read the various opinions out there and digest it all and what the impact to me would be. I've also spoke to CJ directly about this and got some feedback straight from the horses mouth as it were.
First of all I have to say that I don't have a problem at all with Javascript links. Sure it may cause some problems in some browsers but not so much that it caused me concern. I also think that if done correctly Javascript links are great as they can deliver the latest offers/deals to relevant websites. Imagine if you had a page of latest offers which was constantly kept up to date for your users with no maintenance from yourself? Great!
But...Javascript links don't get spidered so won't be any good for SEO. Also, if you maintain a database its not an easy job to switch over to JS links. Not to mention the fact that you can't edit the anchor text to match the look and feel of your site. Oh and JS links don't display properly in Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage. So not that good then.
What really concerns me is that CJ aren't going to give affiliates a choice. As I say above. JS links have their uses but I want the option to use either a JS link (where appropriate) or a good old fashioned HTML link.
Now reading between the lines I think that CJ will do their best to accommodate affiliates who don't want to use JS links on their site by using various work-arounds. For instance there are certain pages of my sites where I use very specific anchor text, and if I can't promote a merchant using my text then I simply can't promote them. However, I don't really want to use a work-around or a text link that has been specifically created for me. I want to be able to log into CJ at 3am and pick up a simple HTML text link straight from the interface. And it's for that reason that I'm afraid I won't be promoting any CJ merchants.

CJ Javascript Link Initiative – Blah blah

Welcome to my blog. My name is Kieron Donoghue and I am the founder of ShareMyPlaylists.com, ContentNow.co.uk and some other stuff. I have no idea why I'm blue on this photo though but I like it!
Wow! This leaves me in a bind. I Most of the advertisers I was using just switched over to CJ. I really hadn’t set anything up yet as I had to join CJ to retain the advertisers. But I do want to be able to use the text I want. Another thing that I don’t like now that I’m thinking about it is that site uniqueness will be greatly reduced.
I’ve been visiting this is my first comment. Hope you are enjoying the Escalade, continued success to you.
