Affiliate Network Incentives

After my recent posting regarding incentives from merchants, and following on from a discussion I had with Matt at the A4U get2gether in Glasgow…I got to thinking.

iPods, mobiles, tv’s etc are all great and I love getting them but wouldn’t it be great if UK networks had incentives like this?

Wouldn’t you just work your socks of for them?! I know I would, the chance to own a Lamborghini Murcielago would incentivise me no end!

So is affiliate networks in the US can offer incentives like this then why can’t UK networks? I don’t know is the honest answer. Think about it, networks earn on average 30% overrider from merchants. So what if they put say 5% of that into an “affiliate incentive pot”. I’m sure that would pay for an awesome incentive, they could also ask merchants to contribute. Surely that’s feasible?

With more and more merchants launching programs on 2 (or more) networks I’m sure it would be in the best interest of the networks to incentivise affiliate to use their links? A real life example in point, one of my major merchants is in the process of moving networks and I’m left with a decision on whose links I should use. At the moment I’m going to base my decision on the merchants interface and how well I get on with the staff! But…if I had some sort of financial incentive it would make the decision a lot easier.

Not only that but I would be looking through the network’s whole portfolio of merchants to see who else I can promote. I mean, if it means getting my hands on a Lambo then there isn’t much I wouldn’t do for the network!!

Some networks in the UK have had incentives from time to time but nothing as big as the US networks. So why is that? Surely we can do anything they can do? Maybe better?

So come on UK networks, who is going to be first to launch a really, really special affiliate incentive?

Interesting…from a merchant perspective the only problem is if it’s network wide and merchants have to contribute, there’s a risk that other merchants wont and you end up feeling short changed.

Thing is Kieron you’d have to make sure you got one in a bright colour - you wouldn’t want to be reversing your Escalade one night and think “Oops - what was that!!” ;-)

If the UK networks were giving away prizes like Lamborghinis and Ferraris, your driveaway would be pretty full in a year’s time ;)

Keep up the good work Kieron!

I wonder if anyone ever won any of these prizes? For something so heralded when it was launched, I’ve not seen any mention of anyone actually winning any of the prizes…
