How to install MyBlogLog on Blogger?

One of the things that irritates me with Blogger is that its so difficult to install widgets. For instance I’ve been trying to install a “Digg This” button for weeks and have now officially given up.

However I would like to install the MyBlogLog “Recent Readers” widget purely because everybody else has it and I don’t want to feel left out. However I’ve copied the code (javascript) and tried pasting it into the blogger template so it appears in the right hand sidebar. Problem is that yes it does appear but for some reason it increases the font for every single piece of text in my blog too.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Do you run a blog on blogger and have incorporated this widget already? If so, how?

UPDATE: Thanks to the technical abilities of James Little, the MyBlogLog widget now appears in the right hand side margin. Thanks mate!

    Move to WordPress!

I used Blogger, then TypePad and now WordPress. So much more power with WordPress.

I originally started my blog with Wordpress. However I found it too complicated so moved to Blogger. The problem is that while Blogger is easy to use, there are no (or very little) widgets available, so it seems to be a trade off.

    Hi,

I’ve managed it using blogger and the rounders template. When I upgraded http://www.anotherjunction.com to new/beta blogger it let me pick an updated rounders template. In turn you can then simply edit the template to add javascript and other stuff like “labels”.

Thing is, I’m not sure that you can pick one of these revised templates if you host the blog yourself (I have my own domain name but blogger still hosts for me - a new blogger feature).

Have you upgraded to the new blogger yet?

Blogger indicate that upgrading can take a while sometimes. You’ll also need to re-add your technorati search bits and your buy.at banner.

Well a couple of pointers for you perhaps, if not a definitive answer!

Have you checked to make sure all the div/p/span tags are closed?

Just use Wordpress and get with the times mate ;o)

I thought you were going to change over shortly anyway?

    Mate,

just add the digg code at http://www.digg.com/tools/integrate

it should have this in it

    src=”http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js” type=”text/javascript”>
    (put the “Script” words together)

    and place just after

    < $BlogItemBody$>

    in your template.

I’d put a < br > before the script though.

    Hope it helps.

I would like to know where you get the code to add the widget. I cant find it anywhere on mybloglog.com.

By the way, you can add a bookmarking button from Addthis.com which has lots of options other than digg.

It actually is really simple to add widgets to the blogger template Just remember to save a back up of your template first and then go to work on the code
