How long does it take to make money with a blog? A real life case study
As a quick follow up to my previous post and the question “how long does it take to make money from a blog?”
The answer: Not long at all. 6 days ago I blogged about the MBNA Sony Card. Well now it appears I hold the number 1 spot (below the official site) for the phrase:

Not bad considering I don’t even run a finance or credit card related blog. And yes I know I could really take advantage of this by heavily editing the post and cramming loads of affiliate links. But I’m not that greedy, so just slipped the 1 in.
Almost forgot….it looks like the free flash Walkman promotion is still running, so if you feel like taking advantage then click here.
What I’m listening to right now: T-Pain ft Twista, Too Short & R Kelly – “I’m in Love with a Stripper” (Remix)

Welcome to my blog. My name is Kieron Donoghue and I am the founder of ShareMyPlaylists.com, ContentNow.co.uk and some other businesses. I thought it would be fun to blog, writing about my experiences in Internet Marketing. I'll include some personal stuff too, probably about my other passions, music and cars. Please feel free to post your comments and thoughts too.

C’mon Kieron, how old is your blog and how many people are linking to it?
You made it look like “it took 6 days to hit the first page results…” when in reality it took a heckuva lot longer then that. It does prove that if you have good onsite seo and even better off site seo, you can hit high rankings.
Yeah Bob sure my blog has been around for a couple of years and has a few incoming links. But my point is that I didn’t even try to get a good rank for the MBNA blog post. So what would happen if I really did try? Just trying to prove that you can make money online for all the sceptics.
Well Done, Have you got any conversions through it yet?
James - there have been a lot of clicks but I won’t know about conversions for another month or so when applications get validated. However I must stress that my original post was not intended to drive credit card applications. And my subsequent post was made to illustrate that blogs can drive traffic for affiliate sales.
You might want to check your ‘ad copy’ as the phrase ‘..Waste of time …’ may not convert too well for you
Funny, you got in Google, but not in MSN. It’s usually just a post or two with a “new” keyword in the title, a few times in the post, and done. Maybe Google is playing the age factor for this ranking.
I have heard by some that 6 months is a magical number for blogs becoming successful. I think it depends largely on the topic. Maybe some take 6 months to a year, but actually make more money in the long run?
