MyMillerStreet – great example of a real world business engaging customers online

A friend of mine has just purchased a new house from Miller Homes. Anyway she completed last week and today has told me about a new website that Miller have launched called My Miller Street. MyMillerStreet The idea is that once you have purchased a Miller home they send you a letter with a unique password and ID etc. You then log onto the My Miller Street site and can get all sorts of cool information like who your neighbours are etc. Not only that but there are community message boards and forums set up so you can chat to your neighbours about local issues and the like. If you take this example one step further then the ways to monetise this from an affiliate point of view could be numerous. For example; how about posting on the message board about gas and electricity suppliers? Do some research about suppliers in your area, find out who are the cheapest and then post some affiliate links to them. Next thing you know, you could have your whole estate switching energy suppliers courtesy of your affiliate links. Or maybe recommend a broadband supplier for your neighbours? Really, if you think about the possibilities are endless. Also, props to Miller for taking the initiative to launch a site like this. Its not often that we see examples of "real world" businesses doing something right on the web but this is such a great tool I am sure it will be a success. I mean we are all nosy aren't we? Who doesn't want the opportunity to learn more about your neighbours. Great way to engage your customers Miller!

    Great ideas….

I’ve been thinking to doing something like this for a gated community I know.

Yeah, know exactly what you mean kieron, having just moved onto a new development myself, this kind of information available would have been great, not that there’s anything wrong with our neighbours mind!

Ian – indeed its a great resource, but better than that I think it could be monetised really well :)

That’s a great idea! But I don’t know if I would be posting information if I lived there. Don’t people talk anymore? :-)

Or you could invite them round for a coffee ;)

BTW: unrelated but have you changed your RSS feed? My reader used to point to http://www.here.org.uk/atom.xml but now you’re using feedburner? Maybe you could have redirected the old address to the new?

  7. ye i think its a good idea, but going round and having a coffee is much better.

Sounds like a great idea. Definitely some thing I would be interested in, since i really want to build communities called TreeFrog Habitat’s, where we get back to true communities and find a way to coexist and share resources instead of hoarding land and all being wasteful and all having separate homes and spaces that we barely use. You will see one day, it will happen. thanks for the inspiration. You could also use this website to solicate a bulk rate for a Home Energy Audit or home inspections. I would not mind.
