Trailer for new JJ Abrams movie - Cloverfield
OK so I went to see the new Transformers movie today (loved it) and was intrigued by a trailer shown before the movie. It was basically a home movie of a guys leaving party, but halfway through the lights go out, you hear a strange noise and the crowd at the party go outside to see whats going on. Turns out they are in New York and there is a huge explosion, chaos everywhere and the trailer ends with the head of the Statue of Liberty being flung down the street. The credits role and all it tells you is that it is a movie by JJ Abrams - the guy behind Lost. No title, no release date, nothing.
So I looked it up on the web and its for his new movie thats released in January next year (in the USA). The URL is www.1-18-08.com, see? Still no title for the movie. A bit more digging found out that it may or may not be called “Cloverfield”.
Anyway the movie is apparently mostly shot from the perspective of camcorders - and thats about all anyone knows; yet.
I have to take my hat off to Mr. Abrams, the trailer got my hairs standing up on the back of my neck. The camcorder point of view made it all the more realistic and I just love his stuff anyway.
So, if you haven’t seen it, here it is:
