Affiliate Network of the Month September 2007 - Webgains

networkofthemonth.jpg

Welcome to a brand new feature - Affiliate Network of the Month.

This is a new feature where I plan to publicly recognise an Affiliate Network that is I believe striving to innovate and add a real positive contribution to Affiliate Marketing and Affiliates in general. It will be based upon my personal experiences as well as their contribution and participation in the industry overall.

I’m really pleased to announce that the first recipient of the “NOM” award is Webgains, here’s why:

1. They really KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Here’s a screenshot of their merchant directory (note I had to cut a bit off so it was big enough to display on this blog).

webgains directory

Whats so great about that? I hear you say. Well, its great because its SIMPLE. I realised this when I tried to join a new merchant on Tradedoubler the other day, I just couldn’t find them. This may have something to do with the fact that the Tradedoubler directory has 21 categories whereas the Webgains directory has around 120 categories.

2. Getting links is simple:

Again, look at this screenshot of the navigational bar in the Webgains control panel:

webgains navbar

See the link that says “Link matrix”? I just click on that and I’m presented with a matrix of all available links (text and graphical) for my merchants. Again, its dead easy. Why can’t Tradedoubler and CJ make it this easy? Instead of giving us complex instructions and options just give us a text link to click on.

3. The iSense Ad Creator

Cool, a content generator that automatically adds relevant product advertising to an affiliate page. So if you have a blog about MP3 players it will automatically display some MP3 players for your visitors to buy, all courtesy of your affiliate links. What makes this different from other content generators is that its automatic, you don’t need to tell it what your site is all about. You can read more about it here, which leads me on to point number 4….

4. The Webgains Blog

Yet again, the Webgains blog, is simple and does what it says on the tin. In other words its a really quick and easy way for Webgains to communicate effectively with their affiliates about promotions, incentive, changes in terms and so on. And oh yes, its updated regularly. Only Webgains and Paid on Results have blogs and I have to ask myself why other networks don’t follow suit.

5. Staff

Hats off to Hero and Sachin for really taking the bull by the horns when they read that I had relaunched UKOffer. Within a day of my post they had emailed me asking how they could help. Since then they have went out and spoke to their merchants to secure me literally dozens of unique voucher codes for my site. This is the sort of fantastic support that makes me want to work with an affiliate network. Thanks guys.

So what do people think of this feature? Can anybody recommend any other networks for the award in October?

What I’m listening to right now: Duran Duran ft. Timbaland & Justin Timberlake - “Night Runner”. Yes that Duran Duran and that Timberlake and Timbaland. Very cool.

Totally agree that their staff are very helpful. Their proactiveness in acquiring new exclusive codes has helped improve my site content for a year.

We are most honoured by your choice Kieron, absolutely chuffed!

We always strive to provide our affiliates with the best customer service and the best tools to help them with their promotions, and we are delighted that our efforts are achieving just that for you and other affiliates.

But, a network is nothing without its affiliates, so the big thank you is for all you guys promoting our merchants and putting the effort in. We’re just here to help you (cheesy, I know, but true).

thanks again, you have put a big smile on everyone’s face today :-)

Hi Kieron,

I was wondering if you/anyone could help me?

I work for an internet marketing company and I am also in a band, which are lucky enough to have an album coming out in about 2 months on general release. On reading your about me section it looks as if you are very well suited to my question.

So I thought to myself wouldn’t it be great if I could do a really simple one tier affiliate program to help spread the word on myspace as I haven’t seen anyone do this yet.

And I thought that a lot people would be inclined to stick a little banner up on there myspace page as this happens anyway with band banners, plus they could get a bit of cash.

So I was wondering do you have any suggestions?

Cheers

Mark
