Are Amit’s cords cool?

I was in kind of two mind’s about Amit’s Super Affiliate Mindset blog up until his latest post. On the one hand he occasionally gives out some useful information, but it is very occasional. However lately he’s been posting more and more lifestyle posts about what he’s doing with his money. Like this post for example which is called “My New Bling Bling: Green Rolex Submariner”. Now there’s nothing wrong with that, I’ve done it very occasionally myself if I’m honest. And if done correctly these type of posts can inspire people and show them just what can be achieved through Internet Marketing. In fact I really enjoy reading these type of posts as a rule, but somewhere in the mix Amit has added far too much cheese to his lifestyle posts.

Case in point. Yesterday Amit writes a new post called Not Just a Business, But a Way of Life! and I have to admit I felt a bit nauseous reading it. Take this paragraph for instance:

Here’s what it’s all about :

A Night on the Town: Dropping $1200 going out to a Broadway show and a swanky French restaurant, Aujourd’hui. We spend $1000 on two tickets to see Wicked, and $200 at Aujourd’hui, quite possibly the top restaurant in Boston.

And then this one:

Designer Clothing from Nordstrom :

…Within two weeks we dropped about $1600 on new clothes. Now you have to understand that this was a big stretch for both of us. We grew up in modest middle class homes, where we bought our clothes at blue light specials at Kmart.

I bought a number of items myself, including two designer corduroy pants that I spend $350 on! Nordstrom actually tailor fitted the length of the pants for free. One of the corduroy pants were Santarelli’s, made in Italy.

Growing up I thought that designer clothing was overrated, but I have to tell you, you haven’t lived life until you’ve worn one of these Italian made corduroy pants!

Oh dear. Amit, I’m really sorry but you shouldn’t be bragging about spending $350 on 2 pair of corduroy pants. Even if they were $3500 a pair they wouldn’t be cool. And just so you know, neither are chinos and polo shirts, v-neck sweaters or loafers :)

So just a little word of advice Amit, lets have more good content and tips on Internet Marketing and a bit less of the old cheesy “Look at how much I “dropped” on my latest bling bling cords” type of posts.

Could have been worse; he could have bought flares and winklepickers.

Yeah but once you get past the “look at me and my wealth” posts, I find some of his tips and insight invaluable. Also his journey from full time job to full time affiliate is an inspirational one, as are most.

Oh come on Kieron. This post is just writhing in jealousy.

“On the one hand he occasionally gives out some useful information”

He occaisionally gives out some useful information!!!! WTF?!?!?!? Amit’s blog has given out more straight dope about PPC and affiliate marketing than any other Affiliate blog out there BAR NONE in the short time he’s been blogging. Since I discovered his blog, I would rank it the TOP AFFILIATE BLOG online today. Yes, my number 1 read. I would rank Derek Beau number two. Nothing against your blog Kieron, you do Yeomans work, but Amit really drives it home and in my opinion has given more accurate and better information about affiliate marketing in less than a year than most other guys in this space have given out in years.

When you go for the ad hominem attack, it really reflects how threatened you must feel. Really disappointing.

Marc, trust me I’m jealous of nobody.

I simply write about things as I see them, thats all. I’m not saying Amit’s blog doesn’t have *any* useful information in, it certainly has some but there are far, far more informative blogs out there. But that isn’t really the point, the point is that the lifestyle posts are getting more and the other stuff is getting less. And if you read the comments on his blog I’m far from the only person sharing this opinion.

I’m just having a bit of gentle fun is all, nothing to get all worked up about.

I have to agree with you Kieron, I don’t find Amit’s blog particularly useful or inspiring and recent posts have been a bit cringeworthy.

I do still have him in my feedreader though as occassionally the odd nugget pops up.

I dropped £10 last night watching Macclesfield Town play Stockport County and I felt ripped off.

Sounds like an episode of Cribs, does Amit also say how big his rims are?

Wow I can understand the quote “you haven’t lived life until you’ve worn one of these Italian made corduroy pants” he’ll have ladies fighting a pathway to his door!

Have to agree with you Kieron, I’m all for inspirational posts but this one riled me a bit….let’s hope the next post “How We Give”, tells us about how Amit went on to donate the life changing cords to someone who’s home is made of cardboard

They’d be a bit more cool if he’d dropped another $10 on a belt so he doesn’t look like Dustin Hoffman in Rainman.

I shouldn’t be too harsh, I’ve seen him speak and he was quite good until he got onto the ‘Here’s what you can do with your Amex Black’ slides. I thought it was just a British thing to not flash your wealth like that, but the Americans in the audience seemed to switch off at that point too.

Got to admire they guy though, he’s fit to burst with enthusiasm for affiliate marketing and shares what he knows.

I was glad to see you make this post. Guys, come on…Amit’s blog doesn’t really have much useful info. In his few and far between ‘informative’ posts if you read between the lines (the lines where he’s busy pumping you up) its stuff like “remove your non converting keywords and boost your ROI”. He (or his writer) are good at stuffing a lot of prose into a really simple idea, making it seem like hes giving away some killer info or something.
When you think about it from a business perspective though its pretty smart. He got his readers really excited about PPC and how much money he was making then basically crammed PPC classroom down everyones throat. Im sure he made a pretty penny from all those referrals.

Hi Kieron,

First of all thanks for the buzz! :)

Second of all the last lifestyle post I did before the one Oct 8th was on SEPT 15TH. SO how can you say I’m doing too many lifestyle posts, when my last 13 posts (before the last one) had NOTHING to do with lifestyle??

I don’t mind criticism , but next time you decide to criticism my blog, at least be honest about it.

The purpose of my lifestyle post are to inspire people and show them what is possible with this awesome business that we’re in. :)

Hi Amit,

many thanks for your comments, and glad to see you enjoyed the traffic from my blog :)

My point about you writing a lot of lifestyle posts was due to the fact that that is the impression that I get from your blog. I haven’t actually taken the time to count your posts but I certainly get the feeling that more and more are about the “bling”. And judging by the comments on the Wicked Fire forum, your own blog comments sections and the comments right here - then I am not the only one with this opinion.

Btw I love Nordstrom too but unfortunately we don’t have any here in the UK :(

Hi Kieron,

I totally understand, you are entitled to your opinion. If my lifestyle post bother you, don’t read them. I find that most people enjoy my lifestyle posts, by the overwhelming response I get from my readers.

Nevertheless, I did a lot of lifestyle posts in Aug since I was on vacation the whole month! I don’t plan on doing any more than a few a month at this point, and if you actually do a count you’ll see that’s the case.

Anyway, no hard feelings man. I think you have a great blog, with great information. :)

The people I admire are not those who boast about spending a few thousand dollars a day on worthless expenditure to bloat their egos and sense of worth, but those like my mum and many other out there, who help others. She might be a pensioner who lives near enough on the poverty line and doesn’t enjoy any luxuries whatsoever, but donates money to about 12 charities. I have to actually encourage her not to donate so much money to charity, because she keeps wanting to send more and more even though she doesn’t have much money herself. Her aim in life is to help others, not blow $350 on pants. People like her are the ones we ought to look up to, those who care for the weak and poor.

Lord have mercy on this one. Seriously I can’t believe people actually read that blog. Nothing but fat headed boast “look at me stuff”. Amit get it together bro.
