Some of my blog emails

Thought I’d share some of the weird and wonderful emails I receive on a daily basis. These are 100% genuine, and I have only deleted web and email addresses to save some embarrassment:

Dear Sirs,

Could you please inform me how can I become a merchant with your affiliate network as I run my web site xxxxxx and would like to start advertising in affiliate scheem

Where does this person get the idea that I run an affiliate network where they can launch an affiliate “scheem”? And at least have the common sense to put your name to an email.

Hi Kieron
Great website ! I am a newbie to Affiliate Marketing, therefore my question will probably be somewhat naive ! But is it true that monthly earnings can be in the order of £100,000 ?? Thank you, in advance.
Regards
Ralph

I wrote a one word answer back to this guy, “yes”. He then replied and asked me “how”. Does he know how to use the Internet and to read? Or does he expect to divulge my 7 years of online marketing in 1 email to him?

New to affiliate stuff but I’m assuming that if you help me make some money, I’ll be helping you make some too. I’ve got a couple of weeks off, so the target is £100 income per day, how quickly can it be done?

These sort of emails really get on my nerves. First of all would you walk up to a total stranger in the street and just ask them a random question like this guy has done? No of course not you would start by saying hello, my name is xyz and then ask a sensible question. But no, this character just bowls straight in with the pointless question. And they say that we Internet folk have no social skills. Wherever did people get that idea? I was really tempted to email back and say something like yes of course £100 a day can be done, start off by picking a really easy niche like “loans” or “mortgages” and spend up to £50 a word on ppc with no daily budgets. You will be rolling in it in no time.

What is this? Is this a pitch for me to work with Net-A-Porter? Well I have absolutely no idea as I fell asleep by the time I finished the first paragraph of this dull, lacking of personality, lifeless, tired and boring piece of PR. It even looks to me as though somebody has emailed me the same body text twice in an email. Great stuff.

You seem to know about marketing any tips to help me.

Yes. Learn to read and write and use a search engine.

So there you go, a few of my recent crop of bizarre emails that I seem to be getting more and more of. On the other hand I do get a lot of really good emails ranging from people who just thank me for writing a blog and giving out the odd nugget of advice to genuine well written concise business proposals. I also get loads and loads of questions about internet marketing in general. And as long as they make sense and are specific then I try my best to answer them. In fact I’ve made quite a few new friends this way. But if you plan to send me an email like any of the above then don’t be surprised if you don’t get a reply.

I’ve just today put in my spam folder an email received from a company that for some reason thought I was Wickes. Severe edit follows:

“Dear Sirs, we write to you as a UK House hold name in Kitchen & Bedroom Supplies in the hope that you may give consideration to ‘Extend your Kitchen Sales / Bedrooms to Cyprus’.

Cyprus is growing considerably and Wickes would be a well established and household name.

Many property owners are requesting individual units e.g., flat pack kitchens. We now need to provide ‘package deals’, along with sample doors. We also need a showroom kitted out.

Is Wickes interested in coming to Cyprus and joining the umbrella of Marinus?”

The Net-A-Porter guy must think you’re a search engine and that you’ll rank his email higher in your mind if he keyword stuffs it. The thing was garbage.

Thanks for posting these. Had a rough day and needed a good laugh.

Ah… the dangers of being an international affiliate superstar. I don’t get too many of these e-mails just yet, but I have also made a couple of online pals answering the nicely worded ones. I even got a tour round San Francisco off one of my blog readers, which was wonderful.

I do find it a bit bewildering that some are worded so abruptly and expect a full reply of all my affiliate marketing secrets!

Mind you, desperation could be a factor I guess?!

Amusing indeed Kieron.

The press release was the worst! I always find it incredulous how overpaid PR agencies who know nothing about affiliate marketing bombard the world with lifeless press releases and expect it to reflect well on clients.

There is a certainly way to get the message across in affiliate marketing, but not in the traditional dry press release format (you do it well in your blog). This industry requires true engagement with the community. Wonder if ‘Blanc & Otus Public Relations’ will bother turning up at A4U expo. Wonder if they’ve even heard of it.

You seem to know about marketing any tips to help me.

keke!

I have one golden gem of advice for people thinking about affiliate marketing - if your site isn’t about what you’re thinking about selling as an affiliate, it’s really, REALLY hard to make any money.

PYSIH.com has made 0 bucks from affiliate sales, despite lots of clicks and tons of impressions. I was never expecting much, but I was hoping that someone would be paranoid enough from our stories to at least try out one of my background check affiliates.

I’ve yet to set up an actual site designed to make money, so I don’t know if I have what it takes to make a serious go at it. I love to write, so that might help, but finding the right affiliate program to promote would probably be the trick for me.

I think the saddest thing is getting questions to subjects that’ve just been mentioned in the previous post.

Damn sad really.

The worst is when you reply to some of these pseudo emails, and they put you on a spamlist.

That’s one call for addressing the contact form to a rotating email every 2-3 months.
