The Sun launch online shopping portal based on Affiliate Window’s ShopWindow technology

The Sun are obviously big fans of this blog as they’ve just copied my idea of creating whole niche sites like my Toys site and the others I blogged about here, almost 4 months ago, using the Shop Window Toolset from Affiliate Window
Joking aside I think thats its fantastic that a giant UK brand such as The Sun are using a CPA model and technology from a UK Affiliate Network to power their Sun Shop price comparison site to their 10.5 million monthly unique users. I could be wrong but I think that this The Sun is the first major UK portal to offer a shopping channel based purely on a CPA model. Most other shopping comparion sites tend to use a CPC or hybrid CPC/CPA model so its a real testament of confidence in Affiliate Marketing that The Sun are going down the pay for performance route.
Apparently there are also plans to roll out a shopping portal based on the same platform on the News Of The World site over the coming weeks so its obviously being taken very seriously.
Congratulations to Affiliate Window for building a great product and convincing some major brands to take it up. I know Amo and the guys work very hard on the Shop Window technology so well done guys for spearheading the drive to take AM into the mainstream.

Welcome to my blog. My name is Kieron Donoghue and I run UK Offer Media Ltd. I thought it would be fun to post a daily (well hopefully daily) blog, writing about my experiences in Internet Marketing and more specifically Affiliate Marketing. I'll include some personal stuff too, probably about my other passions, music and cars. Please feel free to post your comments and thoughts too.

Hi,
Kieron, do you think cpc marketing will be replaced with cpa ? or do you think they will both live in hormony with each other ? If so and why ?
Do you think the says of the independent affiliate marketer are numbered or will continue to get stronger ?
Thanks

SCM - I can’t see cpc marketing ever being replaced, if it is then Google will be in big trouble
CPA, CPA and CPC are all different methods of marketing on the web, I can’t see any reason why any would become extinct. Sure, more and more hybrids of the above 3 methods are beginning to show up but I can’t see the day than any will fade away.
And no I don’t think independant affiliate marketeers will die out either. The way I see it is that the Internet is still expanding at a rapid pace which leads to more opportunities for anyone involved.

Hi Kieron,
Thanks for the reply.
“SCM - I can’t see cpc marketing ever being replaced”
Why not ? Do you think cpc marketing offers potentially larger profit margins then cpa marketing ?

SCM it has nothing to do with profit margins. CPC can be used in places where CPA can’t. Lets say for example you are selling a complex product (financial services springs to mind) and people will want to view some information/brochure online but complete the order by telephone. Usually because they have a lot of complex questions to ask and want the reassurance of speaking to a real person. In that scenario the most viable way to incentivise affiliates to send people to that type of site would be CPA.

SCM - didn’t I just give you an example? I suggest you join some affiliate marketing/webmaster forums if you want to discuss this in more depth as this isn’t really the place for a 2 way converstion.

Kieron,
I think your right when you say cpc is going to be around for a very very very long time. Took a lot at the chart/story below
