Pointless and ridiculous emails

OK so I’ve just come back from a week’s holiday and despite taking my laptop and logging on every day, I’ve still had around 1600 emails to sort through when I came back :(

Just to make life even more interesting, I still find emails like this in my inbox almost daily, what is it with these people?

Hi Kieron,
I have a look in to your websites. thats grate can i have the other address as well plz
Regards’
Abul

Then I see pointless, pointless emails from affiliate managers who should know better. This was the whole text of an email I received last week:

New Partmaster code coming soon watch this space for details !!!!

I mean what on earth does that mean? I can only presume that “Partmaster” relates to Currys Partmaster and that by “code” the affiliate manager means that there will be a discount code launching soon. So what? Shall I drop everything and wait by my inbox waiting for this hallowed discount code to arrive? The suspense is just killing me, will it entitle my users to say 10p off a replacement ink cartridge? Or maybe £1 off a water filter! I just can’t stand the wait, send me my Currys Partmaster discount code now!!!!

Now I am all for merchant communications, I positively encourage it. If you send me offers, discount codes, tips on how to promote you then I will probably use them. But an email to tell me that you will be sending out a discount code soon?!?!? Really? What next??

“Watch this space for an email next week”
“Watch this space for an email about a new email coming soon”
“Keep an eye out as at some unspecified time in the future, we’ll be…wait for it….uploading some new creative!”

Sigh - maybe I’m just having withdrawal symptoms from the sun.

Hi Kieron,

Hope you had a good holiday.

Glad it’s not just me that got a bit mad when i opened up the Partmaster code email!

Why not just let us know when the code is live!

I’ve seen quite a few blogs posts from our affiliate colleagues saying the same. Let’s hope the various culprits read them and take note. The danger is that we hit the delete button for all emails and miss the 0.1% that’s actually worth reading.

I guess affiliate window shouldn’t have authorised the email to go out. Maybe the fact that there previous code had expired and they wanted to keep there valuable affiliates informed.

Also it’s probably because they got loads of messages from us affiliates saying things like ” Is there going to be a new code etc, etc.

Well I hope you still had time to relax on holiday Kieron.

There has been a lot of emails like this of late. Still, better to have some contact than no contact at all.

I’ve just got back from a fortnights holiday and spent three hours sifting through the 6,439 emails that were awaiting me, managing to reduce them to just 61 that I actually need to do anything with!

Agreed… there are lots of emails from awin merchants that have no value - after I recognise one too many from a particular merchant I just click the unsubscribe link at the end of the email.

Partly my fault for joining every merchant on awin at the time I got approved for the network…

Hi,

As the Currys Partmaster point of contact at Affiliate Window I just wanted to let you know that I have made the merchant aware of this blog, and discussed with him the need to only send detailed and constructive emails.

Simon, you are quite right, Currys Partmaster has received a number of emails asking about a new code, and they just wanted to make everyone aware that there was another code on the way.

Thanks
