Yahoo! Search Marketing affiliate programme cuts commissions by 90%

I received this email a few hours ago from TradeDoubler:

Commission Update

Dear Kieron,

Thanks for your efforts in promoting Yahoo Search Marketing thus far.

Due to seasonality reasons and in line with our 2008 plan, we have had to reduce the commissions on our affiliate program to £5.

We appreciate that this might be an inconvenience in the short term and we appreciate your continued support. We will inform you of our quarter 4 plans and commission structure before the end of September.

This commission change will be in place from Monday 8th of September.

Please contact your account manager if you have any questions

Regards,

Yahoo! Search Marketing Team

Now I know a few blog owners promote Yahoo! and up until now, it’s been a good earner. But a 90% pay cut from £50 to £5? Wow that’s a heavy hit to take.

The email is kind of vague as to whether this is a permanent cut or something just short terms so we’ll just wait to see I guess. I’ve emailed TradeDoubler and Profero (Yahoo’s agency) for clarification and will post it here when I get it.

Is this a sign of the credit-crunch or of Yahoo’s failing revenues I wonder? Tbh I didn’t even know that they ran this program, too late now though, lol.

It is a massive decrease - doubt they would reduce salary by internal staff by 0.9% nevermind 90%.

Is there not a similar program on CJ?

Just checked there and no commission reductions.

What exactly is the programme? What does the user have to do for you to get the commission?

“doubt they would reduce salary by internal staff by 0.9% nevermind 90%”

Is that what affiliates are then, external staff? Sub-contractors?

I prefer to think of you as barrow boys :D

I got this e-mail also, they’ll be coming off my site in due course. I could even have understood 50% reduction as £25 would still be a good CPA. But taking it down to £5? Ludicrous!

Arg!…
That is a huge reduction. Typical, as I was doing reasonable well with it!
