Spotify launches today

Spotify - the music streaming service (think a little bit of Pandora mixed with iTunes) officially opens its doors today. Thanks to a very kind friend who knows I have a passion for music, I've had a beta invite for a while now and have been testing it out. However, until now they have requested that nobody blog about it. I have to say my first impressions have been very good. I love the fact that you can state your musical interests (see screengrab above) and Spotify then presents you with a selection of songs from artists in your genre. What's perhaps more impressive is the quality of the music stream, I only have a 512k connection and the stream is always faultless and quality high.

At the moment you can either buy a day pass for 99p or pay £9.99 a month. Or...I have a couple of free invites, so if you want to experience Spotify for free then simply leave a comment below. I'll pick a couple of deserving winners over the next day or two.

Interesting point, Spotify was created by the former Tradedoubler team.

  8. Kieron, I’d love to try it out.
I just heard yesterday that my son left my 80gb iPod, full of all my music on a ryanair flight last week, took him a week to tell me!

  9. Darren says:

I’d love a trial to see how it sounds on my new soundsticks :)

  10. Phil says:

I didn’t win the A4UExpo pass so maybe I can win the Spotify pass? :P I’m not friends with iTunes at the moment after the two hour frustrating session I had on Saturday trying to figure out why it wouldn’t let me activate my new iPhone – turns out I had to turn off all firewalls and protection on my computer for it to access the iTunes store!

  11. It’s awesome I have been on the beta program for over 12 months, we run it in the house, in the office and everywhere.

Well done to Johny and the guys….one of the guys involved in John Forster the ex Md of CJ EUROPE

  13. kenny says:

Not enough good music sites on the web these days and at £9.99 per month this is real value for money! Will try it out for a month or so and stick with it if I like it. Cheers for the heads up on this Kieron but keeping it all to yourself for a while? selfish! ….lol

  14. Andy Andreou says:

    Hey Kieron,

You’re post is spot on! It has a huge music selection and streaming is perfect.

It’s definitely one of the best music sites I have used and its free (with the odd advert)!

The functionality is pretty good too. If you create a playlist you can then email this to another spotify user and it gets added to their playlist instantly.

    Andy

  15. Kieron says:

Kenny – sorry, those were the rules!!!

  16. Hey Kieron, Thanks for the invite. I presume it was from you?

Nice to see a generous blogger out there..

I know that there probably aren’t any invites left, but I’ve been really waiting for one of this for a long time, I hate iTunes and I’d really like this alternative! Your generosity will be greatly appreciated and your karma will skyrocket. :)
