6th Gear Supercar Driving Experience Days - thankyou!
I’m writing this post after a fantastic day out at Elvington air field in York courtesy of 6th Gear Supercar Driving Experience. Simon George, their marketing director invited myself, Dave Naylor, Patrick Altoft, Chris Garrett, and Al Carlton for a one-of-a-kind VIP driving experience day, how could I refuse?
Now I’m not just saying this because 6th Gear kindly let me loose in their Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s but the day was very well organised, one of the smoothest and most professional events of this type I’ve ever attended. The day started off well when we were given an orientation lap of the track from a lovely lady in a Range Rover Sport. I can’t emphasise how useful this was as this gave us an idea of the track layout, braking points and turning points etc. It was then off to the pits to wait for our turns in the precious metal. Instead of waiting behind the fence though we were allowed to hang about the pit area and encouraged to get up close and personal with the cars and take some photos. Talk about kids in a candy shop. With 11 supercars coming in and out we were in 7th heaven.
After taking a silly amounts of photos we were all given turns in various supercars. I had the pleasure of driving a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder (awesome), Lamborghini LP640 (mental) and a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale (brilliant). I was also taken round the track for a few laps as a passenger in a Caterham. Purely so I could experience the thrill of driving at the limit in one of these pocket rockets. I was almost sick…in a good way.
After spending about 4 or 5 hours at the track we decided to let some paying customers experience the supercars and retreated to the pub for a a liquid lunch. We were then entertained by Dave’s stories of internet casino and dodgy mobile cell phone scams as well as why he won’t work with Germans (they bombed his chippy). But those are stories for another day.
So I would just like to extend a very warm thankyou to Simon and all the staff and instructors at 6th Gear Supercar Driving Experience Days for their hospitality, generosity and for making Chris G look as though he’s going fast - in 1st gear. Thanks guys, we’ll definitely see you in March!
I took loads of pictures on the day, here’s just a small selection.
First of all…what else but a Lamborghini Murcielago in white!
The Lamborghini LP640
The Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
Lamborghini Gallardo - notice silly looking things on exhaust. These are “silencers” as this car is too loud for the track at York. Oh, they stop the flames coming out too.
Dave Naylor behind the wheel of an Aston Martin DB9 - he blagged a go of this by asking if he could take it for a test drive as he was thinking of buying one
Chris Garrett very happy to be here!
What a sight. Lambo’s are all about drama.
A pair of Murcielago’s
Lamborghini, Lamborghini, Lamborghini!!
Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston, Aston!
Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lamborghini!
I finally achieved my ambition to drive the fastest and maddest Lambo you can get, the LP640. Apparently you could see my smile from the other side of the track!

You lucky, lucky, lucky B!
So jealous. Glad you all had fun though.
It was a great day out, and if I could only visit the gym more often I might have been able to get that Lambo out of first gear!
And I am glad *I* wasn’t the one who puked his lunch up
HAHAHA ChrisG I had forgot that,, it was a awesome day, so what next parachute jumps or swimming with sharks ?
DaveN
Just to clarify for anyone reading this, it wasn’t me who upchucked - although I did feel like it after the Caterham experience!
DaveN - off-road rallying I reckon
off-road rallying I reckon !! I’m in
Isn’t the reventon faster?
Bob - yeah the Reventon has 10 bhp more but considering there are only 20 being made I doubt we’ll ever see any at a track day!
@Dave - Off-road rallying might be too much concentration and skill required for this geek, I think go-karts are more my style … or parachute go-kart paintball in a shark tank with frikkin laser beams
I believe I’m right in saying the white LP640 is Simon George’s car, one which you can often read about in Evo magazine as a long term type type report. Horrendous running expenses but man what a car!
Rich, yes the white Murcielago is Simon’s. The orange one is the LP640 that you can read about in Evo mag.
Ah, the goodness of Evo, something we can finally agree on Kieron
Been reading it since issue 1 (and then some PC before that), good stuff.
Wow nice cars.
Nice blog too, just stumbled across it today.
Wow, why wasn’t I invited. I’m a huge lamborghini fan, I dig the Aston Martin DB9 too.
Only if I had the money to own these toys….
