Prince – 21 nights book and live CD review

If you like Prince or went to see him last year (as I did) for his 21 night residency at the O2 Arena then you absolutely must buy this book. Why? Well for one it its gorgeous. It's a 124 page coffee table type bound book full of lavish photos taken by Prince's long time collaborator Randee St Nicholas. The photo's are simply stunning, ranging from his arrival at Luton aiport (!) his stay at the Dorchester, shopping at Chanel in Sloane Street and of course on stage and backstage at the O2 Arena. If that wasn't enough there is also a CD (Indigo Nights) included that features Prince's legendary aftershow gigs at the Indigo O2. As the best live artist in the world, ever; a new live CD from the man himself is a must-have. It contains 15 tracks of Prince and the band playing favourites like Girls & Boys, 3121, Alphabet St. and a re-working of All the Critics Love U - In London. Bloody brilliant. Want more? Well Amazon are selling the book and CD for just £14.99. Yes that's £14.99 for a high quality glossy hardback book AND a new Prince live CD. To celebrate the awesomeness of this book and CD I'm giving one away. Simply tell me in the comments below what your favourite Prince song ever is and I'll pick a winner at random by midnight 5th December 2008. Good luck! This competition is open to UK residents only. It’s got to be ” Darling Nikki ” – probably something to do with the hotel lobby :-)

    TTFN

    BFG

  2. John Cronin says:

    hmm difficult decision.

Today I’ll go for “17 Days”

  3. Mads says:

A difficult choice, but I guess Purple Rain rules a bit more than Darling Nikki.

  4. My favorite song is Darling Nikki.

  5. Darren says:

Impossible to choose just one. I’m a massive Prince fan and went to 2 o2 concerts and an aftershow. If I had to choose one I’d say Starfish & Coffee, but I could easily choose 20!

  6. Hadi says:

I last saw Prince on the Lovesexy tour at the NEC.
We thre a hat up to him on stage which he put on – a very special moment!

During the gig he used a part of my favourite song “When You Were Mine” as a guitar segue into another tune – simply awesome.

  7. Sounds like a great product – the shows were incredible last year.
I’m going to be obvious and go for When Doves Cry

  8. Jamie says:

Has to be the underrated – Sign ‘O’ the Times

  9. Lucie says:

Far too difficult, but I’m going to choose “I wanna be your lover”
    L x

  10. Chic Nicola says:

That’s too hard – hubby and I have spent many a long car journey discussing that very question… I was going to say Darling Nikki ‘cos that’s my name (though I’ve never done anything like that in a hotel lobby!) but lots of people have chosen it so to be different I’ll go with Damn U because it’s the song my husband wooed me with.

  11. Kieron says:

John – 17 Days, absolutely brilliant.
Darren – Sign o’ The Times is my favourite Prince album but I would probably go for “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man”, “Adore” or “Forever In My Life”.
Nicola – brilliant choice, you’re so fine ;)

    Anyone else?

  12. Darren says:

    Hi Keiron,

SOTT is probably my favourite album too and I know what you mean, I could easily have chosen Forever in my life or The Cross. I find it pretty much impossible to choose a favourite as I have favourites from every album and every era. What I’m listening to now: Wherever U go, Whatever U do from Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic.

  13. Helen says:

Hmmmmm has to be Purple Rain for me, one of my all time favourites. Book looks great, great Xmas present idea as well, might get a few ;)

  14. Peter donnelly says:

It has to be ‘The Beautiful Ones’ because after almost 25 years of play it still gives me the chills every single time I hear it. Such a perfect example of deceptively simple yet incredibly powerful song writing. Worth changing your passport for! Genius :-)

  15. Andrew Mason says:

Wow, tough choice with so many great songs to chose from. I have been a Prince fan since the 80s and must admit that I do love some of his early songs.

For me, the best song has to be “When you were mine..”. Dirty Mind album was a classic!

  16. Peter Carter says:

Erotic City – always destined to be a b side thanks to the lyrics – fantastic funk song which was totally out of place during the Purple Rain period.

  17. Ruby Web says:

This man (or whatever he considers himself, LOL) is a living legend of soul and funk. Purple rain still rules…

  18. Purple Rain, got to be!

  19. little red corvette!

    yeah!

  20. Bexy says:

its a hard one for me but if i had to choose just one i would go for ‘all the critics love u in London’ i know that isnt the original title but hearing that version brings back so many awesome memories of that summer
    good luck everyone

  21. Ben says:

the song 3121. it reveals a few of the side’s to prince’s personality…dark and intense underneath, light and goofy on the surface, with the mutated camille voice showing his connection with both his male and female sides.

  22. Peace says:

    When doves cry

  23. SONIA says:

I shouldn’t be entering this, if it’s only for UK. It has to be CONTROVERSY, I just can’t believe all the things people say!

  24. Diane says:

It’s got to be ‘When Doves Cry’ as this is one of those songs that instantly time travels me back to my youth! It brings back memories of loud discos, smokey rooms and looking at the world from behind an inch of eyeliner and mascara.
I never went goth or rock as my musical tastes were too varied and When Doves Cry is one of those songs that transcends genres, time and space.
Put this record on, close your eyes and enjoy this all time classic.

  25. PaulG says:

Without a doubt today it’s Money Don’t Matter 2 Night but ask me tomorrow and it’s bound to be something different.

  26. Ruby Web says:

Wow, there’s definitely a lot of Prince Fans here, see the number of comments on this post. :-D

  27. Kieron says:

We have a winner! Well done to Helen, whose name I picked by random last week. The prize is on it’s way!

  28. fabluvskat says:

well i gotta say its between 2 songs either erotic city 9the most funkiest song next to Atomic Dog)The other is Gett Off(His video for the song was mind blowing as well as his live Mtv performance of the song with his big ass surprise)
