a4uexpo London - win a ticket, grab a discount code and why you should go

a4uexpospeaking

The 3rd a4uexpo will be taking place on the 13th and 14th October in London and as always it will rock. I’ll be taking part in 3 sessions this year (more details below) and will be joined by an amazing lineup of speakers and panelists. So, first of all, here’s what I’m taking part in:

The Affiliate Doctors Live - Day 1, 12pm to 1pm

Myself, Chris Garrett, Duncan Jennings and Dixon Jones will be offering frank advice on issues within affiliate marketing, start-up strategy, conversion, blogging and SEO. We’ll be splitting the session in half with questions posed by the moderator and from the audience. I’ll be taking advance questions on this blog soon so please keep an eye out for that.

Start-up And Launch Strategy - Day 2, 12.15pm to 1.15pm

I’ll be participating on this panel in my capacity as founder of ShareMyPlaylists.com along with Jonathan (Hi I’m Jonathan from Spotify) Forster who in a previous life worked at Commission Junction before launching his media career as a voice-over artist for Spotify :) Joining us will be James from Seatwave as well as James from GigLocator. I’m really looking forward to this panel as ShareMyPlaylists.com is a huge priority for me going forward and I’m excited to share some of the background and success we’ve had with the audience as well as learning from my fellow panelists.

Meet The Super Affiliates - Day 2, 4pm to 5pm

This is the 3rd year I will be participating in this popular panel, this year though I’ll be taking a bit of a backseat and actually moderating the panel. The panel will consist of Phil Wilkinson, Tina Judic and Sri Sharma, all seasoned super affiliates willing to tell you their top tips and innermost secrets! As before, I’ll be taking questions in this blog before the event.

So, that’s the 3 panels that I’ll be taking part in, what else do I recommend you see?

SEO Strategies To Make A Splash! - Day 1, 9.15am - 10.15am

Dave Naylor is a great guy and a good speaker. He knows everything there is to know about SEO and top top it all he’s a northerner. What else do you need?

My 12 Biggest Affiliate Marketing Mistakes in 12 Years - Day 1, 4pm - 5pm

Nadeem Azam has been involved in Affiliate Marketing since before the Internet was invented. He’s actually 75 years old but only looks about 14. He’ll be sharing his secrets to eternal youth as well as some amazing insights into the AM. This is a must-see session, learn from someone who has been there, seen it, done it and bought the t-shirt.

Are You Getting Your Fair Share Of The Performance Marketing Action? - Day 1, 4pm - 5pm (yes it’s the same time as Nadeem’s talk but I have to recommend both!)

This talk from Nicky Iapino is worth attending for 2 reasons. 1 because Nicky is gorgeous, yes I admit I’m a fan. 2 because Nicky is also one of the industry’s seasoned veterans and knows all there is to know about Affiliate Marketing. Attend this session and soak up some of her amazing knowledge.

You want to Tweet What!? - Social Media, Twitter and Affiliate Marketing - Day 1, 5.15pm - 6.15pm

This will be a lively, quirky and “funtertaining” presentation from Mel Kirk, Dom Hodgson and Naomi Brown amongst others. Not sure what to expect? Check out Dom’s blog and Mel’s quirky Random Mel blog for a teaser of what’s in store, btw this has to be one of my favourite videos from Mel.

Barriers to Conversion & Discovering Untapped Opportunities With Analytics - Day 2, 11am - 12pm

I persuaded Joanna to take part in this panel so you have to go and see it! Her presentation rocks and she is possibly the geekiest most analytical type person (in a good way) that I know. If you want help making your site convert well then you need to speak to her.

Affiliate Apocalypse Panel - Day 2, 2.30pm - 3.30pm

Any panel with “Apocalypse” in the title has to be cool doesn’t it? This panel talks about how the current session can be a benefit to affiliates. A must-see in my book.

Domain Names – Long Necks and Long Tails - Day 2, 5.15pm - 6.15pm

Angus is someone else I recruited to speak at the Expo. He’s a domain name specialist and the guy who sold Taste.co.uk to Sainsburys for over £100k a few years ago. His portfolio of domain names costs more in renewal fees a year than a doctors salary. Don’t miss out on one of the hidden gems of the conference.

So there you go and if that wasn’t enough there are 3 nights of networking party’s that will be worth the ticket price alone. I’m looking forward to this event more than any other this year, book now if you haven’t done so already, use discount code SPKD10 for 10% off.

Win a ticket worth £349

The a4uexpo team have generously given me 1 ticket to give away to a lucky winner. All you need to do is tell me in the comments below what session you would most like to see and why you should win the ticket. I’ll give the winning ticket to the most creative and entertaining answer some time after the closing date of Monday 28th September 2009. The competition is open to affiliates only, no network or agency staff please. Good luck!

Not forgetting 3 nights of socialising with lots of cool people who know their onions and copious amounts of free alcohol.

  2. Dee (2 comments.) says:

I’d love to grab the free ticket to see the talk on “My 12 Biggest Affiliate Marketing Mistakes in 12 Year” - if he’s only made 12 mistakes in 12 years that’s pretty impressive but not half as impressive as doing affiliate marketing before the internet was created AND to be 75 and still seemingly going strong too!

  3. Dan Harrison says:

Having never been to a4uexpo before, I’m an a4uexpo virgin. I would really like to pop my a4uexpo cherry with a free ticket, and there’s nothing better than doing it with a crowd of like-minded people. :)

I’d love to get along to A4Uexpo as I’d love to hear from the super affiliates to recieve some hints and tips. Having waded through enormous amounts of data in trying to get myself established, often posted by people who’ve never set up an affilliate site, it would just be great to hear from the guys who have been there, done that, and done it very successfully.

  5. Andrew Clapham (1 comments.) says:

Id’ like to go to see Domain Names – Long Necks and Long Tails - Day 2, 5.15pm - 6.15pm as decent domain names are getting harder to find.

A free ticket is the only way to prize me out of my hermits cave!!

  6. Dan Harrison says:

Ooops, I forgot to mention the session I wanted to see. I’m after

    Domain Names – Long Necks and Long Tails - Day 2, 5.15pm - 6.15pm

I’d like to get some ideas on how to choose domains for my next affiliate projects.

I am in the process of a messy divorce, while losing my wife and four kids while no fault of my own it seems like life is crashing I need to focus on being an affiliate and putting all my efort into working and not being depressed, also having some down time as well would help me out.

Thats the negative stuff not trying to be a siob story but trying to show that I need to be motivated and learn from the best, I would really love to meet the superaffiliates, I am so committed to being a super affiliate it would be the idea springboard to restart my future.

    Cheers

Already got my ticket Kieron and looking forward to your affiliate doctors seminar. Only problem is choosing which sessions to attend.

I’m going on my own this time so that’ll force me to do some mingling which should be good. I might well say hi if I spot you at the parties.

  9. Andrew Thomas (2 comments.) says:

I would like to look forward to seeing as many sessions as possible but I will be paying particular attention to Yours:-) - Meet The Super Affiliates - Day 2, 4pm to 5pm.

As I am a new to affiliate marketing and yet to launch a site I am keen to rub shoulders and listen to all the advice that you guys have to offer. I will also be starting my blog as a guide to my experience with starting out and reaching the goal of being your own boss by utilising my dev skills into this sector. It would be a good starting point for many to reference ….hopefully

    • Andrew Thomas (2 comments.) says:

I cant stop thinking about the chance to win this free ticket. I would like to expand on my last sentence ‘it would be a good starting point for many to reference’.

If I am successful at winning the ticket I will be starting my blog with how I got to find out about the free competition and coverage of the actual event. From there on in my blog will detail my findings of breaking into this market.

I have many ideas for starting off but I have so many questions that need answering. These I am sure would be answered at the event.

Fundamentally, my ultimate goal is to become successful at Affiliate Marketing and thus pass onto others the valuable information, tips and advice that I currently need to make a good go at it.

Hell, I would even donate 5% of my first years earnings from AM to any deserving charity of your choice.

      Andrew

I really wish I can attend. But, I am not UK based.

  11. Steven Bradshaw (5 comments.) says:

In June I took a risk, which still haunts me to this day
A job was waiting for me for when I left university
But I turned it down, stupidly, some would say
I did it all for the affiliate marketing industry

The cheques came in and I was high
Everything was going well and I hoped it would grow
But it’s tough and I need to learn more or else it will die
Nothing lasts forever, as I well know.

I’m battling on and I believe I can make it
But my profits aren’t as healthy as they used to be
A trip to the affiliate doctors may help get them fit
They’ve all been there and done that, you see

It would also be great if I could meet
people just like me who do this full time
I’d like to see real people just one day of the week
Working upto 16 hours a day, I sometimes don’t even see much sunshine

I have a sneaky suspision of my family and friends
that the work I do isn’t really work, they don’t get it
They think i’m on facebook, which drives me around a few bends
They don’t see that this is real and full of profit

If I woke up one day and told them this
“I’m off to a conference for 2 days in London”
Then they would take me seriously and stop taking the ?!#$
    But if that doesn’t work…perhaps a shotgun?

Despite being at the first 2 events, I’ve decided not to go this year. Whilst I found the first event good value I was disappointed that last year’s event did not move on. Perhaps I had moved on faster than the content of the event.

One thing that puts me off is the old boy network, the cliques, the in-jokes etc. This is very off-putting for those of us who just get on with affiliate marketing and don’t want/need to socialise in that way. I just want to learn from others experiences and to offer whatever support I can to others. Maybe next year, maybe.

    • Matthew Wood (1 comments.) says:

Some great answers! Good luck to everyone.

I also wanted to reply to the comments made by Gadget,

It’s a shame that you could not complete a feedback form or let us know what you would like to hear at this years event so we can ‘move on’

Perhaps you could email me on matthew at existem.com or call me on 01172 033 009 and let me know so we can ensure the content is to your level.

The old boy network, I’m really not sure what you are referring to? Perhaps you did not make the most of the networking opportunities with the hundreds of new people I can see on the delegate list from exciting start-ups, affiliates, merchants and media professionals?

      Matthew

Hi saw your tweet, tried to register for the free pass but the registration process doesn’t recognise the Voucher Code you gave. Shame I would love a free ticket to go. Just getting into Affiliate Marketing so it would be a good event for me.

  14. Greg Findley (3 comments.) says:

Thankfully I already have my A4U ticket, thanks for mentioning a few of the things not to miss, already struggling to decide what I should see!

I made it along to Think Visibility last week, didn’t get chance to speak to you, hopefully will at A4U.

  15. Mansoor says:

I think meet the super affiliates section will be great!! If i will the free tickets i will be there :) Mansoor

The event I’m really looking forward to is My 12 Biggest Affiliate Marketing Mistakes in 12 Years - Day 1, 4pm - 5pm as I’m in the process of setting up my forst couple of affiliate sites and, quite frankly, need all the help I can get.

I need the free ticket as I’m based in Betelgeuse which, as I’m sure you’re aware is a semiregular variable star located approximately 640 light-years from the Earth. I’ve booked my train ticket at a cost of £41, 293, 472,379,999.99 so naturally, the chance to gain a free ticket would help immeasurably.

    cheers

I really want to see the SEO Strategies To Make A Splash! session for purposes of learning, but I also want to see My 12 Biggest Affiliate Marketing Mistakes in 12 Years. I think the SEO one will be very useful and the Mistakes one will feel like a massive check list for myself too.
How can I possibly decide which one I want to see more? Don’t make me decide it’s not fair!

  18. Netnut (1 comments.) says:

Barriers to Conversion & Discovering Untapped Opportunities With Analytics - This is the session I want to see, reason being is that analytics can provide deep insights into user behaviour on your site, and help hone your keyword strategies to convert even more of your visitors. I’m pretty new to AM and haven’t been to the conference before, so would surely love to go!

  19. Joanna Butler (2 comments.) says:

Well, I don’t need a free ticket, but just wanted to say I can’t wait for A4U - massive thanks to you, Kieron, for persuading me! Want to see all of the talks you mentioned! Plus looking forward to picking up some top tips from the Doctors! Great to see GigLocator is going too - their pitch at TechCrunch Startup Awards was outstanding.

@Netnut Great - hope to see you there! Drop me a line if there’s anything in particular you’d like to hear about :)

  20. Gadget Opinions (5 comments.) says:

I would love to see “SEO Strategies To Make A Splash!” because as a small affiliate with a limited budget, I need all the free traffic I can get. :)

  21. Henry Mclean (1 comments.) says:

    Travel Affiliate….

Travel affiliate sat on a wall,
Travel affiliate had a credit crunch fall*

All the Super Affiliates** and all the expo’s men,
Hopefully can advise travel affiliate into profit again!!**

(* This is why I should win the ticket)
(** This is the session I would like to see)

  22. SEOidiot (2 comments.) says:

Well apart from the fact that I think I owe you 3 beers now Kieron, I would love to come along to A4U as we are launching a new service for affiliates and you cant beat the opportunity to network !

  23. CityTiger (1 comments.) says:

Well I have just made the incredibly scary decision to go full-time as an affiliate marketer. I am leaving my full-time online marketing job for the last 3.5 years after building my own sites up to earning 4 figures monthly.

Its such a massive step, even more so because I actually like my full-time job and finding it difficult to leave.

However, nothing ventured nothing gained so Im hoping that in 6 months I can increase the earnings and make being a full-time affiliate work for me.

I would love to attend the A4UExpo as I was due to go with my current employers but that fell through when I handed in my notice.

I would most like to go to the Super Affiliates session because that is ultimately where I am aiming to be in a year or so.

Now would be the perfect time for me to go to such an event to prepare me for the shock of working home alone from November 1st!

  24. Ben Friedman (1 comments.) says:

I would be interested in trying to get to as many sessions as possible! Including the meet the super affiliates session. I am on the verge of, finally, launching a merchant site, so it would be interesting to go to some of these sessions and view them from a different point of view.

I am so used, in the past to seeing events from an agwency point of view, it would be interesting to see a different side to it and beable to talk to affiliates about what they would want to see in our soon to launch programme.

Also, from what i remember from last year, the nights out aren’t too bad either…

  25. Grant Rowe (1 comments.) says:

SEO Strategies is high on my agenda as is Barriers to Conversion.

  26. Nils (1 comments.) says:

I don’t need the ticket as I got mine as one of the first 50 at a discount. I know it is at great event as I were there two years ago, unfortunately could not make it last year.

Why I am still writing is that I would like to get the ticket and give it to my brother in law as he is keen to get into AM. I have told him where to learn more - this blog, kirsty’s and the a4uforum and don’t be shy to ask questions.

I think he could learn a lot from the event and also meet some great people - I know for myself that AM is one of the best thing that has ever happen in my life and can only recommend it.

  27. Gavin (1 comments.) says:

I would love a free ticket as I can then spend the money on drinks for everyone to be having a good time!

  28. Carmen Mardiros (1 comments.) says:

I’d love to see “Managing Risk to Ensure Long-term Success” because as an affiliate and internet marketing professional, my biggest worry is that the revenue will one day dry up so getting tips on how to manage that risk and put my eggs in different baskets would be very helpful indeed.

  29. Col (1 comments.) says:

Oh man I would love a free ticket who wouldn’t I don’t live in the UK!! we use that funny Euro thing that some spanner in Brussels decided we needed to use and Tony Blare told them to F**K OFF so the £349 is actually €387.28, which is €387.28 more then I have to spend on a ticket.

The reason I don’t have €387.28 is because of the Irish Government, yep they decided to F**K up the country with over spending and mishandling all the billions of Euro they got over the past 10 years and now people like me are all on the dole trying to start our online business from the spare room or the garden shed I’m sure there are lots of us bedroom-bloggers.

It’s not all bad….One of the great things to come out of been unemployed is getting to spend time with my kids this has totally changed my life. No longer do I get home feeling wrecked after a day in the office taken SH*T from a boss who knows nothing about the business. I now get to try set-up a business that will hopefully give me the freedom to spend time with family. That’s what we all want I guess we want to be free and hopefully make a little bit of money to put food on the table and pay the bills.

If I won the ticket I think there are a number of events I would love to attend, I’ve never been to an event of any kind to do with Affiliate marketing. So just been able to pickup a handful of tips to help me survive and be free to spend time with me kids when I want would be so amazing. I always listen to experts and respect what they have to say imagine so many in the same place at the same time you would be bound to get just a few little ideas that could change everything.

  30. Diane (2 comments.) says:

Yes, ok this is my second entry, but I’ve been thinking about this. The important bits of this sort of event aren’t always the actual sessions you go to but the contacts you make!
I’d really love to go to this event and will promise to network with lots of people if you let me win!

  31. Steven Bradshaw (5 comments.) says:

Hi Kieron, nice trackback from Kirsty.

It was me who searched for that (”a4u expo 2009 win a ticket”)!

I had already entered the competition and I was interested who else was talking about it.

I found your post on a4u and also clicked on Kirstys blog for a post she made about a previous expo.

I’m indirectly generating traffic for your site :-)

  32. Pete (1 comments.) says:

I’d love to “Meet the Super Affiliates”.

I made the scary plunge from the relative safety of the PAYE world, to doing this web stuff for a living a few months back.

As I’m now a guppy swimming in the big UK Affiliates pond, I’d love to watch the Jaws of the Affiliate world thrash ideas around, and toss a few fishcakes of knowledge in my direction. With luck, I can swim with the big boys one day.

Plus, it’s an excuse to get out of the house, before I go “odd”…

  33. Zath (6 comments.) says:

With the Think Visibility conferences being the only ones that I’ve attended so far, this would be a great chance to meet some more great people like I have already here “up north”. But I’ve heard that most people tend to just end up talking about ShareMyPlaylists.com!

In terms of the sessions to listen to, Dave Naylor talk some more good SEO stuff (I learnt a lot from his appearance at Think Vis) and obviously I want to hear more about you starting up ShareMyPlaylists.com!

Also, I missed Joanna’s presentation at the first Think Vis, I’m quite a bit of a stats geek so was gutted when I realised I missed that, another chance to see her talk analytics would be great! - Perhaps it’ll help me figure out how best to feed some of my spotify traffic to ShareMyPlaylists.com!

Oh yeah and obviously I’d be attending the event wearing a ShareMyPlaylists.com T-Shirt and labelling every bottle of beer I drink with a ShareMyPlaylists.com sticker! ;)

  34. Debbie (1 comments.) says:

An informal reception at the Ignite Pre-Show
kicks off events at the affiliate Expo
With so much to learn and people to meet
a ticket from Kieron is right up my street

If I win this ticket I’d get up and go
to listen and learn all about SEO
Pay per click and Voucher codes too
all of these to earn revenue

The content, the coding and CSS
there’s much to learn for me to progress
So of all the sessions I’d like to see most
the link building one will keep me engrossed

With top linking tips I need to acquire
to help me push my page rank higher
The knowledge is there wherever I look
much more in fact than any good book

My fingers are crossed that I will be going
In order to keep my business growing
    Networking meetings and solid advice
I’d love to be there, no need to think twice

So please believe I’m not on the cadge
I’d just like to have that delegate badge
Best finish off now and if all goes well
I’ll make sure to thank you at the Novotel :-)

    Hi Kieron,

So much to choose from but I reckon SEO Strategies To Make A Splash! would be a definite must see for me.

Why? I recently quit the 9 to 5 in favour of a career in affiliate marketing, not an easy desicion leaving a guaranteed salary but one I am determined to make work.

I have a small but growing portfolio of niche websites and would love the chance to attend to gain more knowledge and help take them to the next level. Perhaps more importantly, I think the inspiration which comes from meeting and talking with enthusiastic like minded people is a great way to focus your thoughts and push on to achieve those goals.

    Regards,
    Andy

I would love to go to A4U expo…to get one question answered… how many affiliates does it take to empty the bar… :)?

Seriously though, would love to win the tickets, and meet you guys… my favourite segment will still be

Meet The Super Affiliates Day 2!!

Will be my first time…:) its all got to start somehwere right? …

  37. Daniel Goodchild (1 comments.) says:

I’d like to see ‘Meet the Super-Affiliates’, just to see Phil, Tina and Sri in skin-tight lycra and capes. That is a Super-Affiliate right?
Seriously, I need to take my sites to the next level (or abandon them and start something which achieves the same goal)

Ive gone every year and would love to go again having been an avid & dedicated worker in this industry for 10 years! However, Ive had the worst year with one of my clients owing me £50k (yes £50k going legal) and its really ruined my buying power. Im still swimming just about but A4U Expo is now a luxury item for me. Id LOVE to win a ticket so I can carry on as I was, strengthening the working relationships & opportunities and learn more about this ever evolving industry. Besides it gives me a chance to see all those lovely people I already know and love to work with. If I dont win…have fun y’all. Ill be back again soon!!!!!!

I won’t be needing the free ticket, as living in South Africa proves to be a bit of a barrier to entry for me! Some nice posts about the expo, aliied to perhaps a few video clips will be nice though! ;-)

Jacques why be so negative? Get Kieron to throw in a return flight to the UK too in exchange for some seats at the 2010 World Cup! :-)
