Poker.org.uk relaunched

For some time now I've been meaning to capitalise on my lovely nice generic short domain poker.org.uk and put it to good use. So I have. As usual the site is built on WordPress and follows pretty much the same look and feel as my bingo site, bingo.org.uk. I've opted for a nice simple layout with clean and easy navigation. The site is aimed at the UK poker sector and I've tired to feature poker operators who operate in £UK sterling, surprisingly many don't. Poker.org.uk Content and link building is handled through my other business, ContentNow.co.uk as we have a lot of writers who are knowledgeable about online gaming. At the minute I'm only ranking at number 51 in Google for "Poker" but hopefully after a bit of work I'll start to see this climb. The domain helps massively. Anyway I'll keep readers updated of my progress, surprisingly, there aren't that many good UK affiliate sites in this sector so hopefully I can make an impact sooner rather than later. Great domain name and the new layout looks good. What was the reason for promoting sterling operating poker sites, was it to stand out from the crowd?

I assume that you will still feature non sterling sites but are primarily pushing GBP ones?

Good luck with the re-launch and it will be interesting to see how your rise through the ranks for this competitive term!

  2. You should have announced this live from Budapest today!

Jon, as I’m using a .uk domain it make sense to target the UK market. Also, I don’t envisage much international traffic coming through. You’re right that I’m still promoting non UK sites though, just because there aren’t that many UK only ones!

  4. James says:

    Hi Kieron,

How did you decide to rank the sites from 1-10?

Interesting to see someone like Virgin as number one, whereas Poker Stars are not mentioned at all is all.

    Cheers
    James

  5. Kieron says:

Just based on who has best consumer offering. I’ll probably move them around once we get going and I get some more data to work with.

As the person that turned me on to org.uk domains, I can only say congrats on the long awaited relaunch and thanks for the top tip!

Nice simple looking site. Interested how you’re planning on link-building given your current ranking.

Also, why did you opt for the non-www version of the domain?

  7. Kieron says:

I’d love to have a really clever answer for that but the truth is my developer just built the site that way :)

  8. dean says:

are you using any plugins to assist with the ranking system? or is it manually coded as I’m trying various rating plugins but none of them seem to effective.

  9. Nice looking site, really stylish redesign

  10. Dell Deals says:

Nice, clean desgin. How did you manage to get the single word domains!

  11. Kieron says:

I registered them years ago. £2,99 each :)

  12. Good luck with the new venture.

  13. bikes says:

Check out the a4u forum and Sedo as there are always plenty of domains for sale.

  14. car battery says:

Congrats on getting this off the ground, Kieron. Hope it fares well in the future.

  15. DVDs says:

How’s the domain doing now? I see that you’ve got your Google position for ‘poker’ up to 25 (when I checked) so you’re doing pretty well as that has to be a hard keyword to rank well for.

It does show that .org.uk’s can rank well, though!
