Twitter’s Promoted Tweets: I wouldn’t use them

Now it's well documented that I LOVE Twitter, I think it's awesome. However, I'm not sure I would use it for advertising. I noticed that today's promoted Tweet was "New Selena Album" and when I clicked on it I saw the screen below. Lots of haters but hardly any lovers. Would you want your brand to be represented like this?

Selena

  1. OUCH! that would definitely hurt more if it’s your brand that’s being laughed at, what more if your followers see what others are saying about your brand, definitely not a win/win.

Twitter is only good for relationship building, and brings traffic that won’t really convert.

Hmm, that’s very eye-opening. You’re right, that’s definitely not the kind of thing I’d like to see get said and posted about my product.

The fact that everyone can talk so freely about a product is definitely going to hurt whoever is promoting a product on twitter, alot of people know they are paying for advertising, so if someone is trying to alter/spin their image one way on Twitter via a promoted Tweet, I am thinking it’s not gonna work out, and could potentialy do more harm than good, just like we are seing here with Selena’s new album.

    Till then,

  4. So long as people are talking it’s good surely? Even bad publicity is good publicity as has been proven many times previously.

That, or this was a social media experiement gone wrong! It’d be interesting to hear how it went.

  5. Like any other advertising method, there are some good ways and some bad ways in social media branding. It’s nice to see companies taking advantage of this really easy way to promote their brand, although in the case you mentioned, it went the wrong way!

  6. Essay says:

Most of the viewers take promotional messages in tweet as a spam. You will hardly get an attention through it.
