Best business pitch email ever

At ShareMyPlaylists I get a lot of emails from people wanting to work with us in one capacity or another. A couple of weeks ago I got one from David at www.lijit.com. To be totally honest I just ignored it. Then he sent another, then another and today I've just received the 4th and it's comedy gold. Without a shadow of a doubt the best "pitch" email I've ever had. Read on... email 1, 15th July - pretty standard intro email

Hello,

I work with Lijit Networks, an online advertising partner that provides advertising to fill remnant space with a number of music websites. We're filling over 100 million ad calls daily, and we’d love to work with sharemyplaylists.com in driving revenue for your remnant ad space. I know you receive hundreds of these emails each month – and I know that we need to prove how we’re different.

Here are three key differences:

1. We employ our own proprietary RTB technology, ensuring that we can deliver superior CPMs. 2. We are totally performance based – we don’t require contracts. If we don’t perform, you can kick us to the curb. Or, if we perform as we aim to, we’ll develop a nice revenue stream for you. 3. We really, truly are live people (of strong character and good humor). And, we can work closely with you to tweak fill-rates and/or CPM targets to maximize your total revenue potential..

May we have a quick conversation around how we can set up a simple (and painless) test with a ‘slice’ of your inventory?

Cheers, David Email 2, 22nd July - again, standard stuff but shows he's keen

Hello,

A quick follow up on my message sent last week…

We're filling nearly 100 million ad calls daily, and we’d love to work with sharemyplaylists.com in driving revenue for your remnant ad space. Based on data with our other partners, it’s clear that we can help increase your online earnings.

Is there someone in ad ops with whom I should be communicating?

May we set up a simple (and painless) test with a ‘slice’ of your inventory?

Cheers, David Email 3, 29th July - a cuddly bulldog?

Hello, I’m like a bulldog. A persistent, unrelenting (but cuddly and sweet) creature pathologically convinced that Lijit Networks can help increase online earnings for sharemyplaylist.com. And – like a bulldog – I’m totally unable to accept either the word ‘no’ OR the prospects of being ignored.

We CAN help your grow your earnings. And I’d be tail-wagging thrilled to have a short, painless discussion around how we can set up a simple test with a few kibbles of your ad inventory.

Since we launched our proprietary RTB (real-time bidding) network last month, we’ve grown ad calls by over 60%. And CPM’s are climbing, too.

We can make it easy – and revenue-driving.

Regards, David (ARF!) Email 4, 5th August - I'm a sucker for top ten lists anyway

Hello,

I know you get lots and lots of messages about how to boost your remnant advertising revenue for sharemyplaylists.com. You’ve even gotten three messages from me – my last one masquerading as some imaginary cute-but-relentless bulldog.

So, I’m pulling out all the stops. Here are the top ten reasons you should test Lijit as an ad revenue partner: 1. Lijit offers a proprietary RTB (real-time bidding) solution that can boost your total revenue 2. I’m nice. And I’m real. Not an automated support-bot 3. We pay fast (net-30) – and we can boost your total revenue 4. If you test with us, I get to go to band camp 5. We don’t require contracts (so, if we DON’T boost your total revenue, you can squash us like a bug) – and we can boost your total revenue 6. If you test with us – there’s this guy in Africa who keeps emailing me because he wants me to babysit a bunch of gold for him – I’ll split the gold with you 7. We can boost your total revenue 8. If you test with us, I’ll be able to feed that cute little bulldog mentioned in my last email. AND I’ll be able to take him with me to band camp. 9. We can boost your total revenue 10. If you test with us, I’ll be able to buy the trombone (or flute or kazoo) that I need for band camp. And I’ll send you a recording of our band camp performance. Or - better yet – I WON’T send you a recording! (We are musically earnest - but not very good) 11. (bonus reason) – We can boost your total revenue!!!!

What do you think? Want to give us a try?

Best, David

P.S. Reasons number 4, 6, 8, and 10 are just pretend. But we CAN boost your total revenue!!!

David Pyle Publisher Development I'm actually considering ignoring the last email to see what pops in my inbox next Friday! Anybody else got any good pitch emails to share? What I'm listening to right now: Groove. Rinse. Repeat.

Part of me is thinking did the email work (yes) and part of me is thinking how many people have seen this brand in front a targeted audience :-)

I’m thinking what animal I would be if I was to send an email to a prospective client, however get it wrong and I might end up on someone’s blog ;-)

  4. Craig McGill says:

There’s nothing there that actually makes it seem like it comes from a person. That could still be quite easily automated spam with inserting the details of a website.

I’m amazed someone has the time to read the spam. I don’t even open it, it goes straight to trash unread.

  5. David Pyle says:

What a pleasant surprise to find my top-ten ‘pitch’ here! First, I want to assure Mr. McGill that the pitch was NOT automated – a great deal of time and energy went into crafting that list. And, I’ll certainly be following up yet again with YOU, Mr. Donoghue! Bulldogs are barking and band camp is calling!!!

  6. Mansoor says:

I would say someone who is determined to work for you will ensure you end up making money.

I would want this guy to represent my company any day!
